Sell your bikes in Europe

We build your Shopify store for customers in Europe, photograph your bikes in our studio and run your marketing. We work from MAAKE, a cycling hub in Montpellier with its own bike workshop.

Your bikes, assembled and painted in Europe

MAAKE Factory is the industrial side of the MAAKE group. It assembles and paints bikes for brands from outside the group.

Titanium parts will be 3D printed.

What to sort out before you sell in Europe

These topics come up as soon as a brand ships bikes into Europe. We set up the store side. A lawyer, an accountant or a partner handles the rest, and we build the store around their answers.

  • Import duties

What you pay to bring your bikes into the EU depends on where they are made. Bicycles from some countries carry extra anti-dumping duties.

Who handles itA customs broker. We don’t handle imports.

  • VAT

Which VAT you charge in each EU country, and where you declare it. The EU One-Stop Shop (OSS) scheme is one way to declare it.

Who handles itYour accountant decides. We set up prices and taxes in Shopify to match.

  • Safety standards

Which standards your bikes need to meet (EN ISO 4210 is the usual one for bicycles), and the test reports that show it.

Who handles itYour manufacturer and a testing lab.

  • Shipping a complete bike

A complete bike travels in a large box, partly assembled. Carriers charge it as an oversized parcel, at rates that change from country to country.

Who handles itWe set up shipping rates and delivery pages in your store.

  • Returns

Who receives a returned bike in Europe, and who checks it before it goes back on sale.

Who handles itWe write the returns page and set up returns in Shopify.

  • Warranty

Your warranty terms for European customers, and who repairs a bike under warranty.

    Who handles itTerms: your lawyer.

  • Dealers

Direct sales, dealers or both, and how dealer prices and direct prices fit together.

Who handles itWe build the dealer side of your store: trade accounts and trade prices.

How we start with a brand from outside Europe

  1. First

    A call

We look at your range, your current store and the countries you want to sell in. You leave with a short list of questions to answer for Europe.

  2. Then

    A visit to the hub

Come to Montpellier to see the workshop, the photo studio and the bikes of CYKL. If you can’t travel, we show you the hub on a video call.

  3. After

The launch plan, then every month

We send a written plan: what we build, in what order, and which topics go to your partners. After launch, we run your marketing every month.

  • We work in English.

  • We can’t promise that yet. Ask us on the call and we will tell you where things stand.

  • Yes. MAAKE Factory, the group’s factory, assembles and paints bikes for outside brands, custom paint included. We set up your call with them.

  • We can’t answer that for you. We don’t give legal or tax advice, and the answer depends on how and where you sell. A lawyer or a tax adviser decides, and we build the store around their answer.
